The Power of Our Mind and Why Our Thoughts Matter

September 1, 2020
in Manifestation / Law of Attraction, Mind Programming, Mind-Body Connection, Psychology, Science, Spirituality, The Science of Thinking

I started blogging a few years back, in Hungarian, to share my thoughts, ideas, and my world view. I published a new article once in a while, but my blog had no purpose. That changed in 2020. I have a clear life vision, and I found a direction for my blog that is meaningful. So, I shifted to writing in English (which is hard at the moment), and I created a blog that hopefully will be a helpful guide for a lot of readers.

In this article, as an introduction, I will cover a few subjects that will help you understand the power of our mind, and will give you a clearer image of why our thoughts matter. This article will set the tone to my blog’s future content.

MY BLOG IS CENTERED AROUND ONE SIMPLE, YET VERY POWERFUL IDEA: OUR THOUGHTS INFLUENCE OUR EVERYDAY LIFE!

This subject fascinates me, and I spent a lot of time in the last couple of years demystifying it. I’m only at the beginning of a long journey, but from now on, my findings and experiences will be shared with you. I will combine science and spirituality to understand how exactly our thoughts influence the physical world around us. I will jump right into psychology and neuroscience, and I will dig into various ancient teachings to achieve a higher level of understanding.

The Power of Our Mind and Why Our Thoughts Matter

But first, a little introduction: A few words about me

I’ve always been a very positive and optimistic person. I didn’t realize until recently how much this shaped my life. At the moment of this writing, I’m 26, and I never had a serious personal issue or crisis. I never faced a challenge too hard to be stressing or devastating. I can gladly say that my life has been a smooth ride. Well, until last year…

2019 was an awful year for me. A hard year, but also a lifechanging one. Thanks to recent past events, I learned the importance and real power of our thoughts.

Last year I understood what I’ve done well and what my mistakes were in the past. I know now why I succeeded in certain parts of my life and why I failed in others. I learned that we are fully responsible for our life, and the biggest mistake we can make is to find excuses and blame others. I realized that we are the creators of our own lives, and we can make a change at any time of our lives. We don’t have to wait for miracles or traumas to achieve real, lasting change.

My Blog’s Message

Even though I didn’t struggle too much until now, I can see struggle around me all the time. I can see more and more people around me having anxiety, health problems, financial issues, and so on.

The purpose of my blog is helping people change their life for the better by changing the way they think and how they make decisions. I firmly believe that we are solely responsible for everything we have, or we don’t have in life. Also, I consider that any time we want, we can make a 180-degree change, and create a new, beautiful life by just changing how we think.

MY BLOG’S MOTTO: CHANGE YOUR THOUGHTS, CHANGE YOUR LIFE!

The Power of Our Mind and Why Our Thoughts Matter

As I mentioned before, the central idea of my blog is the power of our mind. I firmly believe that the only way anyone can build a happy and successful life is from the inside out, by changing the way one thinks. In this article I’ll show you a couple of ways that our thoughts influence our reality. I won’t enter in much detail in this article, but all the below content will be separately discussed in the future.

  1. Your Free Will versus Your Programming
  2. Your Thinking and Your Ability to Change
  3. Your Thinking and Your Personality
  4. Your Thinking and Your Health
  5. Your Thinking and Your Control over Life

So let’s see a few reasons why our thoughts matter.

1. Your Free Will vs Your Programming

Humans are creatures of habit. Our brains works in a miraculous way. It starts to automate as many actions as possible to ease up our everyday life. The actions that we consciously do, and we do it repeatedly, our brain starts assigning to our subconscious mind as early as around 6-9 years old. Actions repeated many times, become a habit.

Studies say that 95% of who we are at 35, are unconscious programs. Even though we like to think that we have free will, we are really aware and conscious of our actions and decisions around 5% of the time. The rest of 95% are habits, memorized behaviours, emotional reactions, hard-wired attitudes, beliefs and perceptions by our subconscious mind.

So when we want to change, we say things like:

  • I want to be free…
  • I want to be healthy…
  • I want to be successful…
  • I want to be happy…

The problem is that it’s hard to fight our own programming, our own subconscious mind. Every time we try something new, our brain will fight us and try to stay in the safe status quo. Our brain doesn’t like new things. For it, any change (the unknown) is a potential source of danger. This is why making a life-change is so hard. And without being aware and understanding how we think, it’s nearly impossible.

First Reason for Why Your Thoughts Matter, and why you need to learn more about your brain:

You might be stuck in and endless cycle of repeated actions, and without a little understanding, you may never achieve a lasting change.

2. Your Thinking and Your Ability to Change

Everyone likes to think that he or she has an interesting, ever-changing life. But actually, most of the time this is not the case. In our everyday life, we are in a loop, and we repeat a set of thoughts, feelings and actions over and over. Because of our previously mentioned programming, we rarely do new stuff. We try new things, visit new places when we consciously plan it and execute it.

And this loop, practically “our life”, all starts with our thoughts: We think -> We make choices/Decisions -> We act on them -> We create experiences -> Which generates feelings -> Which then generates thoughts, again. This works well when you have all the fun, loving, positive thoughts which lead to beautiful experiences and positive feelings. But if your thoughts are negative to start with, you are in a loop that you would like to escape as soon as possible. And that’s hard.

It is hard to escape, because most of the time, 90% of our thoughts are the same like the day before. We wake up on the same side of the bed, we follow the same routines, we go to work, we think of the same problems and we can’t wait to arrive home to rest or have some fun as we used to do.

Second Reason for Why Your Thoughts Matter, and why you need to learn more about your brain:

It is possible to break out the cycle by changing any of the 5 steps, but changing the way you think might be the most helpful.

3. Your Thinking and Your Personality

What makes us what we are? Our beauty, our clothes, our job, car, home? Of course not. Our personality shapes who we are. And what forms our personality? You guessed. Our way of thinking.

Throughout our life we face many challenges and each of these main events has the power the change our personality in a good or bad way. Many people think that they can’t control what happens to them. Maybe you can’t control every aspect of your life, but you can always control your reaction to any event in your life.

Bad things happen to all of us, but we respond to them differently. And here is the key. Some of us turn things around and manage to overcome it, and others get stuck in a negative emotional space. Nobody can stay positive all the time, but getting stuck in a negative thinking pattern is dangerous. Staying in a state of being for too much time, will definitely change/shape our own personality.

why our thoughts matter

To every negative event, we have an emotional reaction. This is called the refractory period. We keep recalling the event, which keeps us in the same emotional state again and again. If we can’t escape, it can lead to a new, unwanted personality trait.

  1. If you are in this state of being for hours or days – It is called a MOOD.
  2. If you are in this state of being for weeks or months – It is called a TEMPERAMENT
  3. If you are in this state of being for years – It is called a PERSONALITY TRAIT

If we keep getting stuck in unwanted, negative emotional states, our personality will change, and we become negative. We will start believing all the affirmations that nobody should accept:

  • I’m not worthy…
  • I’m not good enough…
  • I can never succeed…
  • I’m not lovable…
  • I have no purpose…

The longer we stay in a negative state of being, the harder it gets to escape it. At some point, this new way of looking at the world is who we are, it’s our personality. It get’s natural to always see the glass half empty, and we don’t even realize that we are being pessimistic and negative.

FACT: Nobody born negative.

A negative way of thinking is not something we are born with. It’s something we catch. We catch it after a terrible event or we catch it from others. The good news is that we can get rid of it at any time. Even if in many cases this can be hard.

It is crucial to be aware of our thoughts and learn how to control our emotional reactions. Not to mention that our constant negative thoughts can also affect our physical health.

Third Reason for Why Your Thoughts Matter, and why you need to learn more about your brain:

You have to learn how to control your reactions to any kind of event. You have to make an effort to break out of any unwanted state of being, so you can change your personality for the better.

4. Your Thinking and Your Health

You absolutely need to understand and acknowledge the link between your mind and body. Your thoughts are directly responsible for almost every health issue you might have. I can safely say that more than 90% of all health issues appear because of our constant bad thoughts. If we manage to keep a healthy way of thinking, our physical health will also be positively improved.

The mind-body connection is scientifically proven. I will cover this subject in details in the future, but now let’s mention just one thing: STRESS.

The main reason today for having health problems is the constant stress. In the past it payed a huge role in our survival, but today is more of an issue than help. Our body can operate either in sympathetic nervous system (fight or flight) or parasympathetic nervous system (rest and restore). But not both.

In order to keep our body healthy, it is crucial to stay in rest and restore as much as we can. This way offering our body the environment in which it can heal itself.

Forth Reason for Why Your Thoughts Matter, and why you need to learn more about your brain:

The mind-body connection is real. We can really make ourselves sick with our thoughts. If you want to live a happy and long life, you HAVE TO learn how to filter and control your thoughts.

5. Your Thinking and Your Control over Life

Our life perception, the way we think, can be rated on a scale that shows us how much control we have, or we believe we have in our life. It would be nice to say that there is no right or wrong way, but unfortunately, this is not the case.

A happy and fulfilled life requires at least level 1 of thinking. Without the feeling of control, happiness can not be sustained. The purpose of my blog is to lift as many people as I can from level 0 to at least level 1.

Below I will present to you the more significant milestones one can have on the journey of life design.

The Scale of Control

Change Your Way of Thinking

Level 0: The Victim

The Victims are people who think that life happens to them and not for them! They feel that they are not in control, and they always wait for help and assistance. They believe that others are responsible for their well being. When something doesn’t work out, something bad happens, they always have an excuse and someone to blame for: parents, colleague, life partner, friends, the mayor, the government, the Russians, and so on.

The Victims don’t fight the status quo, and they don’t have the confidence to risk and try new things. The Victims often use the expression “This is Life” as an explanation, and end up in jobs that they don’t enjoy. This leads to an unsatisfactory life, stress, and thus, health issues.

My blog will be about how to get to L1 and L2. If you can relate to the Victim category, please browse my blog, subscribe to my newsletter, and come back often. I created this blog to help you achieve Level 1 and 2, and start building a happier, healthier life.

The in-between (from 0 to 1)

Not being a victim doesn’t mean that you are automatically at Level 1. You might not feel powerless and have high confidence. Still, until you acknowledge the effects of your thoughts, you are not on the executive level.

I think most people are somewhere between Level 0 and 1. I’ve been in-between until last year. You might be in the same shoes. You have a positive attitude and unconsciously create a life that suits you. However, until you are not consciously aware, and you don’t control your thoughts, you can easily drift off of your ideal life path. Being in-between, you are always dependent on external stimulus, which means you may lose control at any time. Also, health problems might appear at any time due to stress.

Level 1: The Executive

You are part of this category if you are in control of your life, and you take full responsibility for your actions. You know that thoughts lead to decisions, which then shape your future. You don’t find an excuse and someone to blame for every time something unfortunate happens to you.

Almost every successful people and entrepreneur is either on L1 or L2. Anything you might expect from life, there is practically no chance of success if you don’t believe that you are in control. If you believe that life just happens to you, you don’t ever take action. If you always have someone to blame, you don’t learn and grow.

Being an executive, anytime you get a hit, you stand up. You know that your future is in your hands and you can shape your life as you want.

Anyone can achieve an Executive level of thinking, without any spiritual belief. You can reach Level 1 even as a skeptic, as the road between Level 0 and 1 is paved with clear explanations and scientific facts.

Level 2: The Creator

Level 2 is all about spirituality. There are no proof or scientific facts, just ideas, and ancient theories. Teachings that tell more about life than science could yet prove.

For many people, spirituality is nothing else then compelling storytelling. Still, the ones who had wonderful, inexplicable experiences, are starting to open up to the idea that there is more about life than we know.

On level 2, we can mention the law of attraction, universal knowledge, building from the quantum field, etc. When you are a Creator, you know that your way of thinking can directly shift your reality. You can attract all the beautiful things you want, with your thoughts alone.

Level 2, for now, is intangible, but there are exciting theories that can link science and spirituality together. Some theories may explain all the magical things that people are continually experiencing. We will dive into this too in the future.

Fifth Reason for Why Your Thoughts Matter, and why you need to learn more about your brain:

The way you think determines how much control you have over your life. To have a happy and fulfilling life you need to understand that you are in control and responsible for everything you have or don’t have in life.

The Takeaway.

Simple. If you change your thoughts, change your life.

Our life is equal to our thoughts. To create a life that we truly desire, we need to start our journey from the inside out. No gurus, hacks, and quick tips will help you achieve a fulfilling life if you are not in the right mental space. Nothing external, material will ever help you fill the void that you feel inside.

Stop focusing on all the material, physical problems, issues in your life. You shift your focus inwards and start to understand yourself better. You shift your focus inwards and start to understand yourself better. You will begin embrace a healthy way of thinking, and the results will show up in your world sooner than you think.
